Israeli Settlers Vandalise and Set Fire to West Bank Mosque During Ramadan

Israeli settlers have defaced and set fire to a mosque in the occupied West Bank during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, in what Palestinian officials describe as part of a rising wave of settler violence against Palestinians and their religious sites.

Hawzah News Agency- Israeli settlers reportedly attacked the Abu Bakr as-Siddiq Mosque in the village of Tell, located between Sarra and Tal near Nablus in the occupied West Bank, on 23 February 2026, according to local sources and the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Worshippers who arrived for the first prayers of the day discovered black smoke, burned entrance areas, broken glass and racist graffiti on the mosque’s walls.

Local residents condemned the attack, saying it was aimed not just at the building but at the religion and beliefs of Muslims, especially since it occurred during Ramadan — a sacred period of fasting and increased worship.

The Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Religious Affairs noted that such attacks on mosques in the West Bank have increased in recent years, with dozens of incidents reported last year alone.

The attack has added to broader tensions in the West Bank and drawn concern from regional and international observers about the protection of religious sites amid ongoing conflict.
